To clean the inside of an Oberon TCG™ shield or hood window use a damp soft cloth. If the shield has dirt or grit, flush it off with room temperature tap water. If in a hood, remove the window from the hood and then rinse it off.
To disinfect a TCG™ shield or hood window clean first and then dampen a soft cloth with isopropyl alcohol or use a Lysol® wipe. This process may leave streaks as the surface dries. Once dry, use a soft clean cloth and lightly wipe off any streaks or film left on the shield from impurities in the wipes.
For any plastic parts without coatings use a 10% solution of Clorox bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite or NaOCL). Allow it to evaporate. Please do not rinse off.To clean and disinfect the fabric portion of a hood first remove the shield and launder the hood per the washing instructions on the hood label. The next step is to use a can of Lysol® Disinfectant Spray and perform the following steps:
- Hold the can 18″ away from the hood surface, lightly spray the inside of the hood.
- Be careful to never spray the outside of any part of the arc flash suit. Also try to avoid over spraying which can create pool on the inside of the hood and hard hat.
- Place the hood down on a clean surface with the hood opening facing up, allowing the inside of the hood to completely dry before use.
The steps above will help to remove most of the dirt, germs, and possible viruses that could be on the hood after use. However, these steps are not 100% effective in removing all foreign germs and pathogens. As a result, it is Oberon’s recommendation that arc flash PPE not be shared between workers.
